High School Challenge launches its 26th season of exciting quiz bowl competition.  Teams from across southeast and mid Michigan compete in the varsity sport of the mind, culminating with the crowning of a champion in April.  Defending champion Novi High School returns to defend its 2008 title against a host of talented, smart teams.  New teams this year include North Farmington, Frankenmuth and Midland high schools.  Tune in Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 PM and you can watch games you have missed right here on this web page.

In each game, teams square off against each other in four different segments.   In Twenty Questions, each question is a toss-up in which any player may buzz in first.  In Four by Four, each team chooses categories of questions for the opposing team to answer.  Team players may consult on questions but only the captain can provide the answer.  During a break in the action, Host Jimmy Rhoades interviews all the players and finds out about their current activities and plans for the future.  In One-on-One, individual members of each team compete in 3 toss-up questions on a given theme.  In the first 3 segments all questions are worth 10 points, with no deduction for an incorrect answer, but  the Double-Time round provides the opportunity for a quick change of fortunes for trailing teams.  This toss-up round awards 20 points for correct answers and deducts 10 points for incorrect answers.

The final 4 teams will each receive awards to proudly display in their schools, with plaques for the semi-finalists and trophies for the champion and runner-up.
