U-M to discontinue operation of WFUM-TV
The University of Michigan has announced plans to discontinue operating Michigan Television (WFUM-TV) because of shortfalls in revenue since and the need to control the university's costs in the face of the continuing economic downturn. The university is currently searching for other parties interested in assuming ownership or operation of the station, and no immediate changes in the station's program schedule are planned. Acts of Art: The Prison Creative Arts Project
Every year, U-M professors, Janie Paul and Buzz Alexander, along with various volunteers, travel across Michigan to visit prisons and collect art for an annual exhibit of prison art at the University of Michigan. Now in its 13th year, the show has become the largest exhibit of prison art in the country, with hundreds of prisoners participating. While art-making has always been part of prison life, this exhibition in the 'outside' world, no less at a prestigious university, has generated work unlike that of any other state. Acts of Art will broadcast on all PBS stations across Michigan in March and April. More..
